Native from Russia, Nina began her world exploration in Moscow until she was 10 years old. She then lived in several countries - including Laos and Italy - before settling in Paris, where she lives and works today. Photographer and director, Nina creates mainly portraits, realized with great simplicity.
Her only stage props are colored capsules "#lefthandedcolorcapsule" which she inserts over her gelatines. Her spontaneous and beautifully imperfect aesthetic is also expressed through her drawings. Her project "Lefthandlovers" brings together sketches drawn with her left hand, the hand of the heart, to tell scenes of love and tenderness.
Stroll through her sweet and romantic universe on the Barda.
Hello Nina, who are you?
I’m a photographer, director and visual artist. I was born in Moscow, Russia, and have lived in Laos, then in Italy and now in France.
If you had to explain what you do for a living to your grandparents ?
I draw feelings, kisses and flowers. I photograph smiles, embraces and colors.
What do you usually do on Monday mornings ?
If there was only one rule to follow in order to have a happy life, for me it is to wake up in the morning with a smile, no matter what happens later on. It’s an absolutely necessary rule to spend a good day. So that’s the first thing i do, then i kiss my boyfriend hello, and then i drink my morning coffee...
The book you could quote on a date
« Ce qui fut sans lumière » poems by Yves Bonnefoy.
Your favorite month ?
February - the month of snowing, of love, and birthdays !
What do you usually do on thursday nights ?
I dance !
The oldest thing you possess ?
My grandmother’s ring, that she herself had received from her grandmother.
The song you ask for the DJ to put on (when you’re drunk)
Elvis Presley « Burning Love » and « I want to dance with somebody » Whitney Houston. Or Tina Turner, when the drinking level is really high...
What is your sunday evening mood ?
Chet Baker and Paul Desmond, drawings and poetry reading.
When you pretend to be busy, what are you really doing ?
I never pretend to be busy !
Which object makes you nostalgic ?
I have a very melancholic personality, so i’m pretty much always nostalgic, with no particular reason ! Strangely, it makes me quite happy and drives my creativity.
Write the first 10 words you have in mind.
Romance Wind Polaroid Couleur Harmony Silence Moon Russie Soleil... GUCCI !
If you have to spend 1 month somewhere alone, where will you go?
I would not spontaneously go away for a whole month alone, I like to share what i see and feel with the people i love. But if i absolutely had to, i would go somewhere where the nature is wild and the weather very warm, probably by the sea, to write, and get food for the soul in the silence.
One object that define you the most ?
A flower? I love pink carnations. They look like little fireworks of tenderness.
